What Does Our Logo Mean?
The Sacred Himalaya Travel Logo features a symbol
Logoof deep meaning in its sacred hand gesture, or mudra, used as the Mandala Offering ceremony.
By interlocking fingers, a representation of Mount Meru and the four continent clusters is created.
The cosmic mountain mandala ritual is offered symbolically to the divinities and to respected teachers at the beginning of important Buddhist rituals. This practice is called Mandala Offering.
Such mandalas are offered as a means of respect towards the outer, glowing forms of the Buddhas, one’s Lamas and the tutelary deities, or yidams. It is given as a wish for attaining their minds, and states of being.
The earthly mountain that is represented by this hand gesture is Mount Kailash, an amazingly symmetrical 22, 028 ft. dome shaped peak that rises in a remote south-west corner of Tibet, Dramatically centered between two smaller peaks, the peak is believed to be the actual home of Lord Shiva.
Buddhists believe that Poet-Yogi, Milarepa (11th C) is the only human being to have stood on its peak, a feat he accomplished by flying there.
Mount Kailash is the earthly manifestation of Mount Meru, considered the absolute central point -- of the mandala that is the universe.
Our logo was designed for us by students at the Voluntary Artists Studio in Thimphu. With great respect we have chosen this logo to guide our work and represent us to our guests.
